The Borzoi is a breed of dog also called the Russian Wolfhound and is a member of the Sighthound family. They are similar in shape to Greyhounds and in describing their general appearance, "long haired greyhound" is a useful comparison. Borzoi can come in any color or color combination. The long top-coat is silky and quite flat, with varying degrees of waviness or curling.
Borzoi are independent dogs, gentle, quiet and can be clownish with their loved ones. They do not tend to be territorial and rarely give voice. Their nature, derived from being bred to chase game, gives them their independent nature and containment is necessary to prevent them from roaming or giving chase to whatever catches their eye.
In training the Borzoi, one must recognize their type of intelligence and not be too repetitive and keep session short - otherwise stubborness may set in. Training sessions should also be of a positive nature as these dogs do not respond well to harsh treatment.
